It is very possible that the 2.3 multiplier was only for the generations you studied and not necessarily applicable for those who were directly related to the Royal Pony Sisters. 2. Do ponies live forever? Because if they don't, this model is definitely flawed as the 230% growth rate assumes absolutely no deaths... 3. And really, just because we know what the fertility rate is doesn't mean we actually know what the true population growth rate is... Also, the fact that your simplistic model predicts a population that far exceeds the current population just means that your model is seriously flawed somewhere... not that everyone is necessarily related to the Royal Pony Sisters... 2014-01-20 07:19:32 McKay @Over-Analyzed There's a much more elementary error in these calculations: Every pony has 2 parents. This means if the average pony has 2.3 children, the population modifier per generation is 2.3/2=1.15 and not 2.3. Reproduction of organisms with common ancestors is safe as long at the common ancestor is at least 8 generations removed an accurate statistical model would have to account for this as this becomes an issue after generation 8 of 33. as well as numerous other factors including statistical variance in offspring. Additionally it would seem royal genes have a distinct reproduction disadvantage.
